Here are some slight updates, for anyone that’s currently reading:
- UCSD has been closed for the day, though the word on that didn’t get out until many students were a on campus, as of 8 AM. Thanks for the timely heads up.
- Al Guerra, 91X DJ and local music scene fixture, is with his family in Alpine. The closest fire to his home, the Harris fire, is headed in the opposite direction–toward Otay Ranch.
- The map currently shows eight fires, the worst of which is the Witch Creek Fire, which has burned 10,000 acres as of 9:33 AM.
- Qualcomm Stadium has been opened as an evacuee station. I’m not sure what the real utility is of having an open-air evacuee staging center (San Diego Sports Arena, anyone?), but that’s what they’re saying.
It sounds quite silly, but if anyone knows any musicians living in the affected areas (and who might not be awake yet), call ’em and tell them to get the hell out. The main target at this time would be people living between the 56 and Via de la Valle, east of the I-5 and west of I-15.
